This scheme demonstrated how an extension and refurbishment can completely alter the appearance of a residential home, with the end result looking almost like a new dwelling. In this instance the building footprint was doubled, emphasised by the final symmetrical double bay frontage, single roof geometry, and wrapping the new external insulated render around the old and new elements, giving the appearance of a single larger house.
Extensive sustainable design was implemented with use of solar PV’s to the rear elevation and the high insulation value achieved to the external fabric, minimising heat loss. New windows, roof tiles and external landscaping completed the project as whole. Distinct Designs UK Ltd achieved planning and building regulations approval for this refurbishment, tendered the works and arranged the appointment with the contractor. This project achieved a highly commended local Mayors Design Award.
